Listers, I'm going to take a look tomorrow at a cheap 123 300D---cheap because it won't start. Seller says it ran fine for a while, now doesn't make a sound when the key is turned, but the battery is good and the headlights turn on. What do I check first? I seem to remember this being

Yes, I hope it's something like a neutral safety switch, or electrical. But when the 240D I had purchased, and not gotten to use many times yet, showed me the symptoms you describe, it was a siezed engine. People told me to look for a broken timing chain and perhaps something jamming up the

You should be able to turn the engine over with the power steering pump pulley nut - to determine whether it's frozen. If not, the neutral safety switch, starter, solenoid or ignition switch are suspect. Jumping from the small wire terminal on the solenoid to the big wire coming from the battery
