The kick-down cable was bad. Got dislogdes at the tranny. Worn cable
housing.
When trying to fix this I found out that the tranny was on its last leg
(tons of metal in the filter).

I am not sure, but I think to remember that whenn you pull on the shift
cable against the spring load, there is a noticable point of engagement
after a part of travel.

Just to confirm, you can pull the fuse to the transmission kick down
circuit. Cheap and esay!
