Tin the connectors that plug into it? If you can't make the hole smaller,
make the peg larger.

I was thinking about anti-sieze paste. It has a lot of aluminum in it. I think
you can get it with copper also.

Yep I've cleaned the socket and pins, used DeOxIt spray, tried the foam
peanut/cigarette butt trick, and tach is still *very* intermittent. It'll pop
on once a week or so at

IIRC, yes. I don't remember if they're also varnished or not.

Components rarely need replacing. It's almost always just failed solder joints.

Yep, if something's not working on my W123 or W116 it's either FUSES, vacuum,
or mechanical. No computers. Closest thing would be the ACC, cruise control,
and tachometer. None of which work on either of my cars.
