I think they probably got a reverse terminal battery and didn't pay attention.
My '52 Farmall Super M was 6v positive ground. My great uncle apparently forgot
the positive ground thing, he ran it negative ground for quite awhile with the
only issue being that it wouldn't charge.

True, I bought a battery for a friend’s car, proper size, and didn’t notice it
was reversed from the old one. Went to put it in and noticed that so back to
Wally for the proper unit that was $10 more, go figure. There might have been
