Yeah, I just got a kick out of how they named it “locking safe” or something
like that. I think I had to do the same thing, only in my case it wasn’t
locked, I just had to replace the lock with a new one.
And yes, it’s so small it’s of little value. The ones in the W215 and W211 are

I am corrected. The 163 ML500 has a storage bin under the passenger
seat. I should have remembered that as there was no key for it when I
got the vehicle so I drilled out the lock to get it open. There was
nothing in there which made me wonder why it was locked. And yes it and

Well, technically, it is "inside the box" ... but thanks. :))

That’s what mine has - it’s referred to as a “lockable safe” by MB as I recall,
which is sort of comical.

That’s out of the box thinking right there.
My ‘04 350ML has what the operator’s manual likes to call “the safe” under the
passenger seat.

Since the offending sticky material refuses to be removed, why not simply
use it to glue in place a layer of the fabric of your choice, cut neatly to
fit each surface. Then, the box is lined with fabric of your choice and
color, not sticky and unuseable? "Adapt and Overcome" the enemy.

Pretty sure mine has it (W163) as I recall buying a new latch or lock for it.
Again, I’ll check next time I’m there.

Stuff like that is a roll of the dice. I’ve never had a W163 that needed trim
pieces or that I wanted to replace. You just have to look it up and see. I know
a couple of interior trim pieces for my 2003 ML350 were NLA when I checked a
while back.

Are replacement parts availalable? My '09 Volvo had some cracked plastic trim
around the passenger seat and I found that the panels were available so I just
replaced them.

Gotcha.
Yup, it’s the crappy plastic that was used in that time period, unfortunately.
Just like the steering wheel buttons that are sticky. It’s breaking down and
outgassing, too. That’s why your windshield is yucky inside.
Isopropyl alcohol or acetone. Alcohol isn’t as effective and takes mor
Picture?
I’m confused. Are you talking about the lining of the storage drawer under the
front passenger seat? If so, that is the lining, which is a nasty rubbery
concoction that is near impossible to remove and almost impervious to
everything, except maybe acetone.

Did the steam cleaning if the interior of the 350ML today. Worked well, looks
great with one exception: the plastic trim beneath the passenger seat has a
black, sticky residue on it. It is very evenly spread all over it. You can’t
see it on there but when you try to wipe it off your cloth straig
