during the warranty period were caused by people getting dirt on the dipstick

W210s have their upper spring mounts on the body, lower mount in the middle of
the lower control arm.
4matic puts a drive shaft right through the middle of the spring, so the spring
had to be moved. They put the 4matic springs around the shocks, making the
