I did that. But, instead of a few times, I rocked it back and forth about 50
times. It solved the problem.

He needs the special synthetic hazard fluid that is rated for extended
4-way operation. It might be NLA for his car as I believe it was a
lifetime factory load that was only used that one year due to
transient government regulations in place at the time, and not meant to
be serviced.

I thought the stuff that was NLA could be identified by a push-on-push-off
hazard flasher switch. (W123 and earlier chassis)

Retrofit isn't easy. The older push-button uses a larger hole

Hazard lights are acting the same way also...which makes me think it's a

It's the hazard switch. It can probably be taken apart and cleaned (put
it in a plastic bag first). I think I recall some discussion in the
past on that task.
