It was converted to the Fast glow plugs. The slow glow plugs are still
faster than the loop type glow plugs..,
Turn the key on, pullout the cold start handle, fasten the seat belt and
ignite the fuel (hit the starter) Zoom! goes like a ra*ed ape

I am really impressed with the VW diesel engine. Pre-glow is single-digit
seconds, not the minute or so that I am used to with the 240D. Idle is
smooth. I can't wait to take it up thru the 5 speeds to see how well the
clutch works and how smooth the shifting is.
I've forgotten

Starter went in today. I had to go over and assist the mech with putting
together the ball bearings / race of the half shaft. Jeff had spent an
hour
on it and gave up in frustration
Hey LT Don, how's the VW doing?

Getting there.
Mech (= brother-in-law) brought home a new motorcycle (2006 Kawasaki Nomad)
Wednesday night and I threatened him with a flogging if he worked on my car
during our rare Iowa streak of temps in the 50s.
VW is up on jack stands in mech's garage, w/ a half-shaft and a starter
removed.
Hope you're planning on checking the condition of the timing belt,
which I'd replace along with the tensioner as a preemptive insurance
measure. I'd also check the g-plugs and H2O pump while yer at it.

Timing belt was replaced fairly recently. Not worried about the glow plugs
based how the one time the car started the one time it did so far.
