This may not be a stupid question. I am not sure yet. I need to replace the hood pad in Frosch, as it is old, baked and beginning to crumble and fall off in chunks. I was able to source a fairly nice condition pad off a PnP SL a few months ago. I decided to use it as a template to cut a pad

Got a big box from Rusty today containing the hood pad for the 240D. Its never had one in the 5 years its been around me so I figure with the new hood its time. I've got a pad for my 190D too thats never been installed. What is the preferred hood pad adhesive? -Curt __

It's certainly your call, but if you get a couple of old sheets and drape them over the front clip and engine compartment it does a good job of keeping all the gunk from the old pad out of stuff. I have done them on a ladder with the hood at 90 degrees without too much effort. I use a plastic

3M Adhesive Remover is a magic elixir. I always have at least one can in the paint cabinet. Amazing what that stuff can do. My big problem with removing the hood is being able to get it aligned when you put it back. It's a tricky thing to do and take a lot of careful attention to detail.. it

There is a trick to getting the pad in right --- Install the pad dry. It fits under the ledge around the hood, so with a bit of help from a broom or something similar, you can get it positioned exactly right. Prop the broom just below the center of the hood and carefully peel the top half

I don't think you can get all of the resigoo off the hood, but scraping it while soaking it with 3M Adhesive Remover to get as much as possible off is a good idea. I would highly advise using the 3M 08090 Yellow Super Trim Adhesive. This stuff was used for gluing vinyl top material to the roof

Up until the 300D, no MB diesels had hood pads. The inexpensive alternative is to let it crumble and drive on. I know, this is offensive to purists but so is carpet pad and tinfoil. My preference is to glue on a new pad, but doing nothing may be better than spray on foam or carpet pad an
