A couple of differences between snow in the South and in the North are that it's often been warm prior to the snow in the South - the first ¼ of snow melts on contact with the road then freezes to ice while the rest of the snow covers it. This happens almost every time. Makes driving tricky. The

it is curious to explore this. for 6 years, i lived by lake ontario. it started snowing at the end of october and ended in april. sometimes it would snow a few feet in one snowfall. , nothing ever got shut down on account of it it may just be about preparedness but someone has suggested that

Problem here is that there is no equipment to deal with the roads and bridges, so it is pretty much wait it out. We had about a 1/2 of snow 4 years ago but it melted quickly, so no problems. Plus no one knows how to drive on it. Just as well they all stay at home. --R On 1/29/14 11:23
