Hi Peter, Picked up my multimeter that reads duty cycle today. Give it a quick try but don't really know what I'm doing, so have a few questions. Not really sure what you mean by some read 20% adn MB duty cycle is upsidedown, os it may read 80%? I found the port and plugs it in. With a half

30% may be correct for key on, engine off. The Benz duty cycle (actually precent of time at 12V as opposed to 0V) is backwards from US practice, so a 20% reading on a US car will give you an 80% reading on the Benz. Not really an issue for you, as the continious hunting from 37-60% at idle

Thanks Peter, That helps to clean things up. The plugs are really fouling though, so is this the O2 reading lean from an air leak and they adding more fuel than it can ignite? Just want to make sure I understand this? Larry also recommended a wire and cap change due to the age and mileage.

Several things can foul the plugs. Black thick soot is over-rich, crusty hard stuff is oil ash. The only way it will go rich enough to foul the plugs is a very bad oxygen sensor, a failed electro-hydraulic actuator (on the side of the fuel distributor -- or a broken wire to it), a failed

Thanks again Peter. The plugs foul very fast, and it's a thick caked on black as you kind of discribe with oil, and yet the consumption seems fine. I don't notice any blue smoke, or any smoke when when starting or leaving from a stop. I've even had others drive the car, and stop in front of

Some M103's burn oil -- about a quart in 1000 miles (a litre in 2000 km or so), more than usualy. Never changes, but it's there. Your plugs should be tan to brownish gray -- if they are black, the mixture is out of adjustment. What sort of fuel consumption are you getting? Decent or pretty

You can test the O2 sensor with the multimeter -- inscrew the cap on the test connection on the fender (it's on the computer there, a round screwcap with a safty chain so you won't loose the cap). Put the red lead in the #3 hole and ground the black lead with the meter on duty cycle and
