I don't recall the name, but it's typically applied by spraying. It was also impregnated in heavy paper for wrapping parts to prevent corrosion. Phillips makes a very good preservative oil you can add to the crankcase - it's used by the aviation industry for pickling engines, and I have used it

Hi Dan, I read in the manual that Mercedes use and wax based oil for rust protection in the engine bay. I see traces of it in mine. I've done such a good just of cleaning the engine or grease and crud, I want to protect it with something (outside) as the car is subjected very salty roads in

Cosmoline. head smack I couldn't remember the name of the stuff at the time. You can probably find this or something similar at an industrial engine supply house, or possibly a truck supply place that would deal with industrial engines like pumps or compressors. Cosmoline is pretty heavy duty
