Exactly correct. I've also had a non DDEC, mechanical govenor, mechanical
injection 8V71 and a 6V92... by pulling all the tuning tricks to set
govenor and injection to "just right" performance was acceptable minus
emissions issues.. but fuel consumption was geared to 25 cents a gallon
diesel...
There’s a difference between the later two cycle Detroits and their
predecessors, and that’s mainly due to electronics that control fuel
management. The 92 series were far more modern engines and much more efficient
that the older models. DDECII went a long way into making the two cycle engines

10MPG at 35 tons with a modern common rail engine impresses me.
10MPG at 1
Well, with the 8V92 on a good day with careful management, I get 4 Miles
per gallon, at steady state of 60 Miles per hour that translates to 15
gallons per hour unless it's up hill and I dial the fuel up to make the
grade in a hard pull... then. as they say... "Your Mileage May Vary"

Do you mean "minute" not "hour"?

I wonder how long you could run that thing before violating local nuisance
ordinances.

At full load only 1 gallon per hour is "conservative". I have owned 6 of
these engines, presently own one 8V92 [same cylinders, just 2 more of
them].
Plan for 2 to 3 gallons per hour at full load but then, how many
neighborhoods do you want to power up? Send your neighbors a "power bill"
, b
I’m going to guess about 40-50 gph at full load.

And it's got a big two stroke Detroit in it.
How much fuel does a 6V92 burn in an hour, anyway?
Mitch.

Holy snot! That thing makes nearly as much power per hour as we use per month!

Like any mechanical system, a lot depends on maintenance. I would say probably
2500-5000 hours.
It’s not designed to be a prime power (continuous) system, but you could
certainly use it that way. Maintenance is a lot more aggressive on a prime
power unit as one might expect. Fuel consumption
What's the TBF on one of these?
