NSS removal; I can't remember; but should have only a couple of small
bolts?

Is this your 300cD? The 722.3XX tranny must be quite a bit different
than
the 722.118 in the NA 300D's I've had.

OK, I got the switch off. As predicted (not by me), there is
no sign of internal shorting. Oh well, I always wanted to know
how to take them off anyway! Back into the trunk I go, I guess.
What a grimy mess. For those who want to know, the tricks are to
remove the crossbrace and the speedomete
You have to get one of those little screw drivers than is angled, sort
of a double L shaped deal with a driver on each end.

Be sure the hood is open if you try this not sure how much the
tranny will drop wit
There is a notch in the actuating rod the bolt fits into. The lever
will NOT come off until the bolt is out. This is true of several other
"pinch bolts" on MBs -- the steering knuckle to ball joint pinch bolt
on the S124 chassis comes to mind.

Pinch bolt has to come out completely, just loosening it won't work.
Man, I wish I have known this VITAL piece of info two years ago when I was
doing the NSS job for the first and only time!

Is it harder to remove the NSS on a later W123 than the one on a '77 300D?
It didn't seem that hard on that car, just two 10mm? bolts and the bolt on
the shifter arm that clamps to the rod sticking out of the tranny. The
hardest part was getting the arm off without breaking the two ears and/or
Unplug switch -- some have a rotating catch, others just pull out from
the font or side, depending on style. Three screws or bolts, and you
must also remove the pinch bolt on the shifter lever and pull it off.

Right angle screwdriver if you have slot head screws, and replace them
with hex bolts.
How many? Once removed, does it pull straight out, or are
there tricks to it. Remove electrical plug first? I tried
to liberate a junkyard switch at the U-Pull once, and only
ended up ruining it IIRC. Didn

Needless to say, the switch goes on the tranny before it goes into the
car at the factory

Anybody know the trick for removing the neutral safety switch
on a 123? I've got an intermittent fuse-blower on shifting
into reverse, and I suspect the switch. I'd like to take it
off and examine it. If it's toast I suppose I'll get a new
one, but I'd rather not kill it trying to get it off.
