There are only two mounts. See section 35-040 and 050 in the 123 manual.

Thanks, Bill. Think I'll replace the supports like Marshall suggested and
go ahead and drive it, at least for a while.

My 300 TD was singing and talking for quite sometime, at least 2 years,
before I have the rear end fixed ...even drove it to the shop to have it
fixed . I push the envelope a lot at time and sometime it is worth
it ,

I've got a 3.69, only used for 90k miles behind a auto tranny 240D
(talk about low load duty). I'm sure you'd rather have a 2.85 or 3.07

Not long if you don't get good lube in it. Probably longer than you can
stand to listen to it if you change the oil and it doesn't leak ou

I remember those! They really howled, didn't they?
And something that comes on
ONLY at a narrow speed range is not likely a diff, I don't think.

It surely can be differential related and if it is, it's more likely
than not a bad pinion bearing, resulting in varying gear lash.

In my 82 300SD, it's mainly at low speeds, and is loudest at around
45 mph under light throttle. Goes away when throttle lifted. Audible
at highway speeds, but less so than at 45. Also, there's evident gear
lash. Mine is a confirmed worn R&P. I would not think those come on
suddenly--mine's bee
Well, my brother's a mechanic. He offered to do that, and I said that
Marshall had said NOT to attempt it, that it was TOO DIFFICULT. My
brother repeated his offer, saying that when he worked at a
transmission shop, his nickname was "the proctologist," as he could
make any rear end he worked on, f
