Though I don't really like this garage door opener (very noisy) the $1.10 for a replacement drive gear vs. $200+ for a new unit made my decision for me. Maybe replacing the gear and getting it lubricated properly will quiet it down a bit. Allan -- 1983 300D 1979 300SD

Not a real answer to your question but I replaced the gears in my 25 year old Craftsman unit and it was fine after that. Not all that difficult to take it apart and replace the broken bits. Randy On 02/04/2012 6:27 PM, Allan Streib wrote: My Craftsman garage door opener stopped working

Crapsman is a chamberlain unit. I have a good drive gear set at Daughter's house, but it is impractical to get to them for the foreseeable future. Chamberlain is a good brand. Not a real answer to your question but I replaced the gears in my 25 year old Craftsman unit and it was fine

I'm sure you'll make the best decision for the situation but one more data point for the archives - after living with a torsion spring opener for a decade, I'll never use anything else. Super quiet and extra storage space above the door - awesome. Dave On Apr 2, 2012, at 4:55 PM, Allan
