The vulnerability may be overstated, but the future catches up with us in time.
There was a big snit about all the pollution cars were spewing some 30 years

stations in urban areas and used it as a revenue stream.
Agreed.
Because of the threat of extended lack of services in the event of a CAT4 or 5
hurricane barreling through, I have several tanks of propane, a gas stove that
works without power, and a generator that will provide a reasonable amount of
power for refrigeration and a small single room AC

to keep my life pretty simple. Living in the great white north is not
conducive to surviving SHTF. I want my diesel car so I can drive after the EMP

It hyperbole, theres no way that "All of the cars in the United States could
suddenly and without warning be 'turned off'". So right off the bat the writer
is clearly an idiot.
You couldn't even turn off all the cars in one state. The writer doesn't seem
to recognize:A. How big the USA isorB.

It is not an imaginary science fiction scenario that, with the flip of a
switch, every automobile in the United States could suddenly and without
warning be "turned off," all their engines stopped, their radios
disabled, all by a malevolent saboteur.
