Take one dozen raw oysters, dice into fine pieces, throw into garbage. Use
the mushrooms to garnish a nice T-bone steak.

Just a bit of saute in buttah, then you can put them with other things.
They have a mild flavor, you don't want to overwhelm them. Good on
pizza too.

Don't know if we have similar varieties of mushrooms as you folks would
have or not.
My father used to gather and eat wild mushrooms. He said if they did not
smell bad, they were generally safe to eat.
They never killed him so I guess he chose the right ones.

My brother used to fry big white puffballs.
If you let those get too far gone to eat, just let them dry up and stomp
them to spread the spoors.

Yes it's a very big thing in rural Indiana. Never got into it, but
wife's family was. Her mother has found them around on our wooded
property occasionally. Never understood the allure. To me, they don't
taste much different from any other mushroom.

We have chanterelles that grow wild around here, they are really tasty.
There is another kind that looks very similar that can make you sick but
not kill you. They just kinda grow out in yards and places, I think a
friend had a whole huge crop in her front yard but I wasn't sure so

I wanted morels last year but never could find a one despite spending many
hours in the woods. It was really dry last year though and I think we just
didn't get them. I did find some false-morels which are fortunately fairly easy
to detect.

My father in law was a hard core morel mushroom hunter, and had his “special
places” where they grew that he guarded carefully. Allen lives in such areas
and probably has people around him hunting them as well. Father in law did a
lot of his hunting in the Ninevah and Camp Atterbury (IN) areas,
We can take a trip and never leave the vast estate
