Gas turbine powered generation systems are usually a ground power version
of a large passenger jet engine. The most common use is for several of the
systems to be located around a nuke plant, or a large coal plant [both of
those systems have long lead times to bring them on line and produce
Depends on the refrigerant I would think. The temperature at which it refuses
to go back into liquid form at pressures the compressor can generate.

Hot here, too. 80F this afternoon, at least until the monsoon rains come later
and it drops down into the 60s.
Weird thing in Flagstaff: even when it’s hot outside, the rain is freezing
cold. I’m thinking this is an issue related to altitude?

What is the outside temp at which AC stops working? At 116, I'd almost think
you'd need a water spray on your condensor, to get some evaporative effect to
help remove the heat.

Diesel in AZ is still $5.86/gallon. Gasoline is inching down slowly
($4.68/gallon I think).
So tired of hot. I have to constantly remind myself this is all that stands
between 1.7 million people living here and 3.0 million people living here. I
saw part of an interview with Charles Barkley,
Apparently local Costco has reg for 3.90 today. I’ll probably go fill up the
wagon on Sunday

I could go for $1.89 9/10 a gallon and some mean tweets right about now

Diesel is down about $0.10 here from the $6.09 peak, gas has come down a lot
more and never got that high.

Yes, as Floyd points out, gas turbines are the biodiesels of the rotary
powerplant world and will burn pretty much anything you can put into them.
That’s not without issue, however, fuel systems can be tweaked to handle things
most of the time.

Cheapest I saw today was 4.409 regular, 5.109 premium, 5.309 diesel.
Gasbuddy just told me Michigan's cheapest gas is 3.999, probably

Basically if it will burn and flow through a pipe it can be burned in a
turbine. Might not be optimal, and might need to be tweaked a bit, but
it should work.
I recall fueling a King Air once with avgas as for some reason we didn't
have any JetA. The pilot told me it was OK for some limited

I understand that a bunch of refined product is going from the US to Europe
which makes sense, they're trying to ween off Russian supply. This will
continue and will escalate.
I hear a lot of people
Don't they use the fuel to boil water, turning the turbines with steam?
Change the burners and plumbing, and you're set to go.

Europe is in a natural gas supply crisis, and have started running gas turbine
generating stations on kerosene, increasing demand for this refined product.
Anyone else heard this? I know that turbine engines can theoretically run on
pretty much any flammable liquid or gas, but it seems to me
