Top up? If the unit is low but working, I'd say it's worth a try. If
the unit is empty, don't waste you money! Empty A/C MUST have a
vacume pulled on it to dry the system out.
Also a waste not to find out whyn it's empty, It must have a leak, fix
it or open a window

I used to have the 134a level adjusted every 2 years on my 300SDL as preventive
Maintenance. The tech would draw vacuum for 1/2 hour and refill. It worked
fine, cost about $30.

NAPA's June ad has R134a small cans for $6.49 each in 3 different flavors.
I particularly like the Sub-Zero can which contains 2 ounces of synthetic oil
and 11 ounces of R134. The synthetic oil is supposed to improve efficiency
up to 18 percent (compared to What, I don't know.) If you are
