That's my first guess too. One or more bad plugs, glow light won't stay on,

So he wants us to diagnose his car's _electrical_ problem,

If it has an OVP relay, that can cause strange things in the glow
system (and other places) if it goes bad. It is nice to have a
stable of these cars, so you can swap thinks like glow relays, Klima
and OVP relays to confirm diagnosis or diagnose if you are too lazy
to do the real diagnosis.
Here is the one for 81-87 with the newer relay and pencil types. It
is from the 124 manual, but they are all the same from the relay to
the plugs. Wiring on a 617 is the same as a 602.

Isn't short glow an indication? If I'd ever RTFM, I should know, but
being a man, (refer to Red Green) I don't often read the manual
unless I am really stumped. I just check the plugs and never
bothered to memorize the indications. A short light indicates #1 is
good and one other is bad, I b

I'd be inclined to think about plugs. 2 years doesn't mean much without knowing
how many starts in that time and the total mileage.
Many short runs

Steve has been trying to post about a glow plug problem he's experiencing but
the SP*M filter keeps killing his messages, so I am paraphrasing for him:
He is experiencing a similar glow plug issue, where the key is turned and light
comes on for 4 seconds and goes out. Repeated attempts get the
