Just rewired the left rear door on my 87 also. The window wiring was
shorting out and blowing the fuse when moving the window up.
The 85 is hanging in there.
I wonder why it always seems to be the left rear? I would think the drivers
door would be most common.

The package arrived today, SWMBO declares your organic hand-made jalepeno
jelly to be delicious. I think we'll serve it with a nice soft cheese and
some premium water crackers at the next GOP fundraiser that we host. What
kind of wine would you suggest?

Thanks! I hadn't thought of that.

Indeed. Gotta order a new grommet first and resist the temptation to ever
lower that window again until this has been fixed.

You have a broken wire in the door post, this is quite common.
When a hurricane isn't pending, you need to find the broken wire using a VOM
and splice in new wire through where it bends.
Might be a good idea to splice in new wire for all of them, if one is broken
more are soon to follow.

I've got the same problem with my left rear door on The White Whale. I bought
some fine-stand silicone insulated wire, that I'll slice into the harness and
replace all those wires. The wire I bought is supposed to be very flexible and
so should last the remainder of the car's life.

OK. I removed the door panel and saw nothing amiss. Bad news - the PW
motor is inaccessible, as are the wires that lead to it. So I activated the

I have a spare console switch if that's what you need.

Not to change the thread, but while we are all talking about windows. Does
anyone have a spare left front window switch that will fit a 82 300TD? I

Thanks in advance.
Now we return to regular programming.
I go with Randy. Long wires from battery to
the motor wires. Your idea of switching wires
at the motor connection in the door would
also work and at the same time show you that
the switch is bad. Could also do that by just
pulling the switch and connecting the wires

I wish it were intermittent now, it's been dead for a week, so not much
hope. It's easy to remove the door panel on a 123. I will do this tomorrow
morning and report back what I see.

Hmmm you might be correct. It’s been awhile since I’ve done one.

I'm betting/hoping that the motor is OK but there is a break in the wiring
between the rear door and front console.
If the motor is bad then that is at least relatively simple to replace.

No sound whatsoever as the switch engages in the UP position. This is
purely an electrical issue.

I doubt the switches are the problem - I swapped three of them and cleaned
the terminals in each case. In any event, each master switch operates the
front left window but not the left rear. The windows on the R side of the
car operate normally with the passenger side console switch.

I forgot to mention - that was an early attempt that failed. The grommet is

I think for starters I will switch the wires attached to the PW motor and
hopefully that will raise the window again. if not, then I may have a bad
motor... Could it be a regulator issue??

Try holding the switch in the "up" position while opening and closing the
door. That will flex the wires in the accordion joint, which may be
broken. You can also open the door and squeeze the accordion joint while
holding the switch in the up position.
