I can't recall ever seeing the sunroof motor gone in
the U-Pull yard. I don't think they fail often so
nobody ever takes them.

Yup. But you can get a new sunroof motor assembly at the
junkyard for not much moola. Now that you've got access to
the guts of the roof you can fix the original problem, whate
Did you get my finder's fee check in the mail for that car?

You guys didn't tell me this was an option.
Opened the sunroof by hand about 3/4 of the way. Pulled down the
healiner in front. First tried to pull it forward and out, but
wouldn't go. So pushed it back. Then pulled the roof shut.
Then after trying to
And now I know why the adjustment nut will not re-tighten. I managed
to strip it by attempting to use it to close the roof.
Thanks user's manual for being unclear.
I'm thinking that without that nut being in place, there is no tension
on the cable? And thus the motor just spins.

Okay, so is the removal of the headliner simply to gain access to
something to grab ahold of and pull?
If so, I might consider using a suction cup (cheap dent puller dealy)
and trying to pull from the outside.

On my 300SDL, I got the sunroof somewhet clos
cable with the other and force it closed.
Moving the bar should force the rear of the sunroof up.

No, I've never had to take apart that end. You have to hold
the flatted shaft while you tighten it, but somehow I doubt
that's your problem.

Any thoughts regarding why that silly hex nut just spins and won't tighten?
And any thoughts on how in the meantime I can get the roof to seal up?
Is it simply cable tension that snugs the roof up in place and holds it there?

The plastic hex cap, often missing, locks the hex nut
in position on the flatted shaft. The tire iron
turns the entire mess, but it only works so long
as it hasn't gotten stiff.
I have read most of the info in those two links you posted. Answered
some questions.
We have noticed before this failure that there were a few streaks
being left on the headliner from opening and closing the roof. And the
stuff feels gummy. Sounds like all needs a cleaning.
I wonder if someone ha

I guess I'm now a member of the sunroof trouble club.
I noticed after buying the 87 190D that the sunroof didn't close fully
one time. So I re-opened it and closed it and it thunked shut loudly.
Since then, it sort of thunked loudly when shutting but closed reliably.
Tonight, it closed almost fu
