When it flooded out here about 3 years ago the road was under about 6ft of
water in the middle of the flood spot. I watched several people in big tall
truck try to make it and get stuck in the middle. Only a moron would try that.

Yep even if the engine doesn't ingest water, it can get into the tranny vent.
Unless a vehicle is set up for fording deep water don't do it. And if there's a
current, don't do it even then.
