What are you running on your 14s? the 195s look too skinny to me what
is the biggest you can go?

Stock tire size is 195/70/14. I have 205 /70 14 on there now. I need
tires desperately and hope it’s going to look good with the smaller
tires. What size is everyone else here running?
The Fuchs are rare but the TUV-approved Chinese knockoff 15" wheels look
great and are cheaper than most other aluminum wheels. They are always on
ebay.

15” anything on these cars makes a huge difference in driving and handling.
However, 15” wheels, especially bundts, are nearly unobtanium, and when found
often cost more that the value of the vehicle.

The 15" bundt upgrade is the best thing I ever did to my w123. The wider
lower profile tires just transformed the car in curves and improved the
ride; I think the tires being v rated smoothed it out a lot also.
Like Jamie I just came into a new NOS set of 5 with new rubber and metal
center caps
Hubcaps "look" like they are on heavy steel wheels, OK for putting around
town. Bundts and other obviously alloy wheels "look" appropriate for
dashing about on twisty back roads.

Hubcaps make the car looks slower, so they are appropriate for a 240D. Less
so for a 300D turbo.

I consider a 123 and a 116 differently, 116 should have bundts, not sure why
but I think it looks better. On a 123 I prefer hubcaps but then again 2/3 of the
123 cars I've owned have been 240Ds with hubcaps...

Yeah, I vote for both. Last year, just before the chowaq, I pulled off the
15" steel wheels and hubcaps from my W116 300SD and went back to Bundts.
What triggered this was finally collecting 4 perfect NOS wheels that were
suitable for car.
I do lust for a hubcap-wearing W123.
On Wed, Jun 26,
Yes well said. I’m just going to swap them and not look back.

Or if you don't care as much about originality, you could strip the paint off
and powder coat them. If you use the kitchen oven do it when you're home alone.
This would be a good color to powder coat them:
Did MB ever sell that chassis with steelies and hubcaps any place in the
world? If so, that's original enough for me. Use the wheels that you like,
forget everyone else's opinions.

IMHO, Bundt wheels are an eye distraction when on an otherwise cleanly
designed car. The Mercedes "look" as designed, imparts a kind of classic
style that reflects the strong and enduring character earned by the cars
reputation. Bundt wheels are on par with bad ear rings and mismatched
lipstick on
A good compromise.

The hubcap look is clearly better in my eyes especially on a non-metallic
colored car. Maybe I keep them for originality for the sake of car shows and
use the hubcaps for my own driving pleasure?

Well i won't really weigh in as i think i created the term bundt ugly in
an earlier discussion of this. But as,my Latin teacher used to say (in
Latin), there is no disputing about taste.

Subject: [MBZ] To bundt or not to bundt
I know we’ve had this conversation here before regarding my red 300D W123. It
has bundts with failing paint which I plan to swap for aluminum steelies (I
have already) with hubcaps (already got a set painted). So a good friend
I do not agree with installing hubcap wheels on the later cars that came with
bundts. I like them on the earlier model 123s and 240s that came with them
originally

It’s certainly a personal preference, but I think that steelies (or AL
steelies) with the painted covers look so much more sophisticated for these
cars, whether it’s a W123 or W114 or W108. I just think the colored wheel
covers make a really nice accent, that’s all.
Just my $0.02.
