Sorry - the Trap Oxidizer was changed. The hose is probably original,
but tightening the clamp was all that was needed. Those OEM large
radiator hoses seem to be immortal.

I can't recall whether I tasked the group to help me figure out why
the newly re-reconected self levelling system on my 1985 300TD with
the CA version engine kept losing (or loosing, if you prefer) its SLS
fluid. The rear components were dry (SLS valve, air cells, struts) so
I had suspected
An SLS line runs through the heater box?
All of us who assumed that you'd killed the seal in the pump by running it dry
and were running SLS fluid into the engine get to eat crow, I guess.

The sooty smell was not from SLS fluid - two different problems, as
explained in my second email that already is awaiting your perusal..

Long ago when you first complained, I said it was likely leaking
through the low pressure hose. Yes Through the hose.
Second choice, leaking through the pump into the engine.
Unless your CA 85 is freakishly different, all the SLS plumbing is on
the left side of the car, not the turbo side.
That was done back in the 90s. I checked the VIN with the Tysons
Corner, VA dealer.
