: [MBZ] Turn signal weirdness?
Hi, guys!
Yesterday, driving home, my turn signals (1976 300D, w115) quite suddenly
stopped working (with no flakiness beforehand or other indications of any
issues).

I thought it was when you buy a used car, then every five years.
Anyway, given the symptoms, the quickest thing to try is cycling the hazard
switch 20-50 times.
Stuart, do you recall bumping
Mitch and Jim: Yeah, I did hit the hazard switch before it happened, as a
matter of fact. I'll pull and clean it tonight, see if that fixes things.
That explanation makes sense, now that I think of it and get reminded that I
*did* touch the thing...
Larry: Already done, not long after I got the
It was, of course, the hazard switch.
Thanks to everyone who told me that (and boo to me for *having had the
problem before and completely forgotten*).

Stuart, the hazard relay is poopy. Gump had the same issue and after
I got the new relay from Rusty, she blinks right. I did both the
hazard and the under dash relay, since I did not want to be chasing
the thing for weeks

Not entirely, else how could the hazards work with
the key off? (The turns certainly don't.)

This is almost always a dirty hazard switch.

For new and used
10-4, Jim. I shall carefully and completely examine the offending tail
light. Donkey shirts.

My left turn signal works fine when my headlights are off. When the
headlights are on, the left signal flashes quickly like the bulb is burnt
out. I've inspected the bulb and it looks fin. It flashes when the
headlights are off, but doesn't flash when the headlights are on. What's the
story?
This is for the 300D, of course.

Bad ground to the turn signal light. It's in effect taking a virtual
ground through the parking light system, which it can't do if it's
powered.

Bad headlight ground or damp electrics inside the dash.

I see. Is the termination of this ground in the tail light assembly?

There's a ground stud in the back of the car. The taillights are
grounded through their connectors to this stud. Something along
the way is broken, you'll just have to chase it down. A careful
and complete visual examination
