There are quite a few glowing reports along with the occasional zingers. I
might actually take a chance if the item is cheap and appears to be in good
shape.

least in the few negs I looked at, he 1. didn't even claim that the items
worked (specifically mentioned that they might be DOA and that he didn't
check them) and 2. didn't leave retaliatory negs.
