[MBZ] You can’t pay me enough to do roof work

Todays project was to replace several sections of shingles that were blown off in the last couple of months high wind events. It’s a job that is not rocket science but I hate dealing with. Been trying to get somebody to give me a quite to fix it and/or the entire roof for a couple of months, fin

I have a big roll of asphalt roofing (can't remember why I originally bought it) that I have used for patching up missing shingles. It's nice because you can unroll a piece that's big enough to cover what you need. Knock on wood, all the areas that I have patched with that are still OK. I use ro

We’re going to have to replace the roof of the house and the detached garage on the AZ house soon. Since we expect to do some renovation and expansion, we’ve held off until that time. I have quotes for the existing roof surfaces to be redone with architectural-grade shingles (about $20k). I hav

I see a lot of lower-end rentals around town that have gone to metal roofs, so I assumed it was cheaper. Would seem to be less labor to put down fewer big sheets of metal vs. a lot of smaller asphalt shingles, but maybe more skill is required. On Sun, Sep 10, 2023, at 17:40, dan penoff.com via

They’re not uncommon in FL, and the times I’ve seen them being installed the pieces are either extruded onsite or bought in bulk lengths and cut on-site. I’m sure the cost is also affected by the complexity of the roof as well. My AZ house would be pretty straightforward, as it’s a 1970s “L”-sha

Our house here has a pretty simple roof. Our other house however has those tall steep roofs they have a lot of different angles. For this house I would almost rather do a metal roof. There was an addition added on at some point, actually several add ons over the years. The one in the west end yo

My roof is very simple, just two sides, no valleys or dormers, just a couple of penetrations of plumbing vents, a ridge vent, and two skylights. On Sun, Sep 10, 2023, at 18:08, Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes wrote: > Our house here has a pretty simple roof. Our other house however has > those tall

On a nice day in May or early June, roofing is a fine job that reminds you of all the good things in the world. It's hard work but it makes you sleep soundly and lets you eat hearty. In July/August/September when it's hot and humid, roofing is something akin to hell. -Curt On Sunday, Septemb

If you have Amish around get them to price you a metal roof. We don't have them so the MA house got architectural shingles. They're fine and have a warranty long enough that I don't expect to ever replace them. They're around the place in Maine so in a couple years we'll have them put on a roof

When we did the roof in MA they wanted something like 4x for a metal roof. When my aunt had the roof done on grandmother's house it was a pittance more expensive to go with metal. The difference was having the Amish do it. They only do metal roofs and a equipped to do it efficiently. -Curt On

The ones in northern Indiana did roofing, at least they did commercial work, like farm sheds/buildings. -D Sent from my iPad > On Sep 11, 2023, at 2:16 PM, Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes > wrote: > > We have a lot of Amish in the area, I can’t say I have heard of them doing > roofing or metal
