No, but its a pain to have to change a timing belt every 100,000 miles for
$500+ when a chain could last 300,000 - 1,000,000 miles.

Exactly! You have to specify a matched set at FLAPS, although most
of the jockeys have no idea what a matched set is. Your friendly
local tractor or industrial engine dealer (or bearing/industrial
supply) would be a better choice if you don't want to give the

Many years ago when I worked at an auto supply store you could buy belts (we
carried mostly the Gates brand) in a matched set. Surely these are what
Rusty has available.

I recently installed new fan/drive belts on my '85 300TD & '84 300D and, other
than the belt for the AC compressor being rather difficult to get on the
pulleys, I noticed somewhat of an oddity with the two belts which go to the
alternator and H2O pump in that they were slightly different length

I agree. my 62 190Dc had a shoulder strap, but no lap belt. I used
the shoulder harness anyway. My 66 200D came without belts, but has

wondered why we don't have full harness and helmets in cars.

Your of the opinion that, seat belts won't keep you alive in a crash.
There is data to show that wearing eat belt will reduce the morbidity of
an auto crash. I'll go with the data.

Oh, wait - it is Kaleb's favorite Bama-Care that keeps us alive - so,
no - we don't need seatbelts.
