It's hard to go wrong with Delo 15w-40 although I like 5w-40 for winter.
Made the block heater on my B-series not at all necessary.

What does the Manual say and go by that.

I have been running Mobil1 in it for years.

I used 15W-40 or 20W-50 in the SLC when I had it - I don't think the older
engined like the light weight oil, as they weren't engineered for it. M1,
of course.

Well I have run an '03 toda 4 cyl pickup for over 235,000 miles
now on 15-40 all fleet from Wally's place. It still wants to go
so that might work for you. I just have to remember to change the
oil and filter every 5K miles but other then that it's worked for me.

Are you driving it year 'round? If so, you probably need to go with the lighter
weight...

I got rid of my diesels. They used M1 20-50. I have two cases or so left
over. Gasser cars are pretty happy with 10-30, so will invest in M1 of that
flavor. Should I use the diesel weight in the 450SL? The thicker stuff seems
to work well in the old engine

So, what do you think? Should I run 10-30 or 5-20 in my 02 F150 with
about 175K miles?

I use Delo 15W-40 in everything. SL's, dodge, lawn mower, etc.
Doubt your SL needs lighter oil for winter duty.
