I had two 1975 Vega wagons. One 4 speed stick which was pretty peppy. The
other was an automatic with AC and it was slow as molasses on a cold winter day.

Yes, it had a four speed. I can't imagine that car with a C-4 in it. Total
slug.
The stock carb was a Holley 5200 that the second barrel was crippled on for
emissions. I fixed that, and after doing so, it was quite peppy.
