The w140 is making coolant disappear.
#1 boy drove the car after the fan bearings failed and the engine got too hot.
There was steam under the hood. When the car went to the indy for repair,
leakage of coolant was noted, but no viable explanation or investigation took

SDL was doing that. Intermittent pinhole leak in
the hose to the heater core, right where it came
off the head. Maddening.

No monovalve on the W140. It's got a contraption called a "duovalve".
It's located on the driver's side inner fender under a cover just aft of the
SLS reservoir. Like the monovalve, it's expensive to replace and, for the most
part, can't be rebuilt.
There are rebuild kits still sold in German

Things to look for:
Leaking coolant tank, either bad cap or cracked reservoir (I've had
both things happen).
Minor hose leak, typically at the head.
Roasted thermostat (shows as too high operating temp)
Leaking aux pump (need to replace the one on the TE, it finally leaked

That's the way my 126's demise started last March - overheated, then missing

At least the head do not typically crack on the M104 when overheated,
but they can "collapse" -- that is, the pressure from the expansion
dishes the head bolt areas. May or may not be reusable, have to send
it to a rebuilder to check. They do warp, though, and it may or may

Put a dye in there, then with a black light look for leaks. Is
your washer fluid level going up?

Thanks for the data. System still has a healthy range of coolant, I just
topped off with water. No indication of immediate freezing temps.

Washer fluid has been leaking. We scored a replacement from the PnP, but it is
a royal pain to do the swap.
