I did the exact same thing on My 2003 Outback about 3 weeks ago but I did not use the impact, I did it with the breaker bar. The car is from Chicago so I attributed it to corrosion and low grade asian materials. I drilled and tapped and replaced the bolt. Were you R & R'ing the CV? Steve On Tue,

I was removing the bolt in the bottom of my Subaru steering knuckle this evening with an impact wrench and it sheared off the bolt head. This setup is somewhat similar to the way a Mercedes ball joint stud is secured in the bottom of a 124/201 knuckle. It make me wonder if I was wrong to use air
