I did the exact same thing on My 2003 Outback about 3 weeks ago but I did
not use the impact, I did it with the breaker bar. The car is from Chicago
so I attributed it to corrosion and low grade asian materials. I drilled
and tapped and replaced the bolt. Were you R & R'ing the CV?

What about getting some left handed drill bits?
I'm leery of easy-outs simply because they are super-hard and border on
brittle... Not to mention that they swell the bolt that you put them in...

Hmmm. Not familiar with the setup, but likely drilling out the bolt
will let an e-z-out pull the remnants.
Which bolt? There is no bolt holding a W124 ball joint in, they
press in.
