Does quality also vary wildly?
These things are best of to be of good manufacture and materials, due to
being hard to get at.

CIDP is easy to lookup/research. Some of the reading is a bit shocking.

Thanks for the encouragement Larry!
I'll be doing this job on the diesel as soon as I get a long weekend
free. Not that I'm looking forward to it, eh?
I'm going to buy new diaphragms for the vacuum elements and try fixing
them rather than buying the ones I can fix, it's vastly cheaper.

Hey Kaleb,
Yep, that's the highlights - had it evacuated and charged

The one I bought was made by ACM (IIRC) and now I need to arrange
to send it back. It was the only one he had so he offered a refund if
he confirms it is bad. I had my AC shop
So I must have missed it, so you replaced the evap and the new one

Thanks guys -- I think you are correct - 20+ years on the o-rings mean
they are probably on borrowed time IMO. and I DON'T want to take that
stuff apart again! :-)

While I wait for the Evaporators to be tested (this morning I hope), I
was wondering something. So far I have not replaced the o-rings on the
3 tubes that connect to the heater core. My thinking was the o-Rings
are not leaking so why disturb them? Now, I am thinking that since

I was told they checked all connections. Plus, the 2 freon tubes to the exp

and are well respected so I am confident in what they did.
I think I will have the old evap shop tested along with the new

Mitch,
I've dealt with George for over a dozen years with parts for my old 80 300SD,
servos and other pieces. George has always stood behind his products and was
excellent to deal with.
Just a recommendation.

I wouldn't buy a thing from him myself, as everything he sells is just a resale
item you can get elsewhere for the same price, often from the manufacturer.
Not to mention I think he's a hack who takes advantage of his MBCA ties to

That and the likelihood of cracking or breaking the plastic on pods that are in
excess of 20 years old is pretty high. I would go with new pods, myself.

I checked BuyEuroparts and found 2 Evaporators as follows:
By ACM - Evap w/Valve $169
By Rein - Evap w/o Valve $202.
I assume I should replace the valve while I am doing this? Is one brand
better than the others? Maybe both are junk?
Thanks for your help!
