Hi All,
Did any of our Arizona list members happen to see a bright
bolide in the last hour? It was captured by the automated
camera on Kitt Peak -- the exposure is labeled 2004/11/17
07:01:51UT + 180S, presumably meaning that the bolide
occurred sometime between 12:01:51am and 12:04:51am MST.
Tks to all that I answered my request. I got the contact with Johnson Bros.
In fact it was just a temporary broken link.
Best day
Michel

Hi Martin and List,
yeah, that's really a funny publication: Otto Hahn (not to confuse with the
discoverer of nuclear fission, who lived half a century later) prepared two
voluminous books (1,2) containing plates of very neat photographs of thin
sections (mainly Knyahinya and Borkut). He

Dear List
Is there an official definition for mainmasses?
A)the mass that is left after classification .
ok no problem
B)over 50% of one meteorite.
What's up with meteorites where several peaces were found ,then three
stones could be the mainmass but there could be one stone that's bigger as
Andreas, to me and everyone I know, main mass always signifies the largest
remaining piece of any meteorite.
Thus if a Dhofar is found in 3 individuals, the largest is the main mass,
but if that piece is cut up, and one of the smaller pieces is left, then I
think that should be called the main
We have argued for years about this and often with
agendas to push and you can argue forever without a
concensus that pleases everybody.
The main mass is the largest remaining piece. Are you
saying that if a rock is cut so that no piece is
larger than 50% of the original weight that there is
no
I second that. I think that's how the term main mass is best described.

Hello Al,
To the best of my knowledge there are only three undisputed pallasite
falls - Omolon, Marjalahti, and Zaisho. Mount Vernon has been disputed
as a fall by virtually all of the sources that I have read (with the
exception of the Catalogue, and the way it disintegrates when exposed to

Main Mass
Here is my two cents . When I started writing ARN's History in 1996
the main mass was the largest single specimen from a find or fall . That
piece and only that piece was the main mass . If it was cut lost or
destroyed the main mass was considered missing . There can be only
