You don't understand what I'm saying. Maybe others also don't fully
understand the system either. Let me explain the way it is supposed to work.
1) A new meteorite is characterized in the laboratory
2) The information is submitted to the Nomenclature Committee, usually to

Jeff,
Thanks for that clarification.
I have two questions if you have the time to answer them
Of the total number of Associate Editors, how many yes votes does it take
for a provisional meteorite to get accepted?
Does the Editor have veto power?
Best,

I've added a whopper 2.5 kg slice of Etter TX to my site. This is a
consignment piece from another collector.
Dimensions are 18 X 12 and is polished. If you are interested, please
email me. We are somewhat flexible on the price.
It can be seen here...
I believe that current practice is that a majority of the committee must
vote (8/15), and a majority of the votes must be in favor. In fact, any
member really has veto power in that if somebody feels very strongly, a
vote might be tabled until the next in-person NomCom meeting at the

Hola list.
I'm looking on behalf of a collector for a fine oriented (or orientated

Can be a classic name, can be a desert stone. Don't has to be classified or
even numbered.
Important only, that it's has to be oriented.
(That means, that I'm looking for a stone, where the apex

Hello Greg and List,
Zircons which usually occur as minerals have been reported
from lunar soils, lunar meteorites (DaG 400, SaU 169), SNCs
(Shergotty), carbonaceous chondrites (for example in Murchison
hibonites), from the Vaca Muerta mesosiderite, and several HED
meteorites - among them
Hi List,
If a meteorite is getting classified and it is a breccia, and a thin
section is one 1in x 1in, how in the heck can it get classified correctly?

one part, then another lab look at the other part sometime down the

Hello List,
There is something I wanted to add. Greg did not only emphasize
the occurrence of zircons because they are rare in meteorites but
also because of the fact that most if not all of the eucrites that
contain zircons are brecciated whereas NWA 3148 is unbrecciated.
Only three left ...

Hi Steve, and List,
Just to avoid any confusion - actually, I'm still living in Germany, and I
don't intend to move to Australia that soon. Guess they wouldn't allow me to
own a piece of Calcalong Creek down there ... On the other hand I guess the
weather is much better on the southern half ...
Hi Norbert,
I believe you could bring in and own your Calcalog Creek in Australia if you
did decide to live there. You just couldn't leave with it should you decide
to move back north ;-)
Cheers,
Frank
P.S. It's Spring here in California (for the moment anyway).
