Hi Linton,
Yeah, we'll have to disagree on AstroMart. I wouldn't pee on the guy
that runs that place if he was on fire. I'd flush money down the
toliet before spending it there. I cannot begin to count the number
of times that guy has screwed over good people for minor technical

Hello List,
I am interested in around 100 kg's of Gibeon, if anyone has a large specimen or

Hi Steve & List,
I would also be interested if something already exists...
But making a database (using just Excel or other similar spreadsheet
program, I'm also okay using MS Access) wouldn't be hard, but what
fields should be included?
Since I'm also new to collecting, I wouldn't know off

HI Elizabeth.
I'm not using anything more fancy than Open Office's "Calc", the freeware
spreadsheet.
The fields I use are:
Meteorite Name
Classification
Weight / Form
Notes
Price Paid
Price/Gram
Dealer
Date Purchased
Most are self explanatory save for maybe the "weight / form". Form is micro,

Hi Elizabeth and List,
I am a dinosaur and I use WordPad documents for all of my records,
including my personal collection catalogue. I keep them backed up on
two different USB thumb-drives, just in case my netbook crashes.
I list the my personal catalogue reference number, the meteorite name,

Hi Frank, michael,all,
Nice slice.
Looking at the impact melt there appears to be some sort of vug exposed.
Just made me wonder if any work has ever been done on such vugs in meteorites.
It seems to me that they are likely to contain gasses formed during impact in

Hi Elizabeth
The program is called "GS Mineralien-Verwaltung 2"
and I'm quite happy with it (link to shareware 30-day trial version
in former message below, or have a look at EBAY offer: article number

It has almost all the categories Don Edwards mentioned in his message.
