The darkness could be impact melt or close to it (High shock). Must be
an OC with the large chondrule showing. I have a slice of NWA4588 which
is an L5-S5
with a matrix that looks bang on to yours.
Cheers!

Hi all!
This was in the pile of NWA space rocks I bought at Tucson. It is
much darker in color, with less free metal and few chondrules.
Any idea as to what it might be?

I believe that a week ago we determined this to be a crackpot. Iron
rich olivine basalt is my blind guess at what it may be. I have some

Dave,
In a career working frequently with basalts, I've
never seen megascopic free metal. I also have never
heard of the same. Basalts are, by nature, iron rich,
but for all practical purposes, most of the iron is
present in silicate phases. This thing isn't a
basalt. I don't have any better i

Hello All,
A few years ago I traveled to Meteor Crater with my father and older
brother. While we were there we did stop a few (~5-10) miles from the
crater, on public land near the highway. While there we found an
excellent ammonite, en matrix and a couple of small impactite
specimens. They are

Hate to tell you this, but I have found pieces of the same stuff around the
crater, it is molten glass from burning garbage long ago.

Hi List,
A few weeks ago when we got married at the Meteor Crater one of the
crewmembers gave us a private rim tour. As a kind of wedding gift he gave
us this piece of glass like material which he found on the rim some
thirteen years ago . It has some grayish flakes included and even clearly
