I agree with Gilles, your filter should react on stdin closing,
d looked at various other filters and I am not

what tells the filter to shutdown.

I assume you're trying to send mail from your LAN to your own mail
accounts, rather than relaying outbound. This is what I use to ignore
the DNS checks in my filtering. Not sure if it's the best way, but it works:

They both support server-side message filtering with Sieve, if that's

What does your smtpd.conf look like?

Where I said "user virtual" I meant "user vmail". I've not had enough

As a proof of concept, I have a setup doing that which I think you are
trying to do:

table vaddr file:/etc/mail/table_vmail_addresses
table vmailstub { '@' = vmail }

I've been lurking on this list for a long time but I've never posted.
I've attached a perl program I threw together a couple years ago which
does recursive SPF resolution. This might help your debugging.
For this type of testing, pass it a domain on STDIN:
echo 'gmail.com' | spf2ip.pl

FYI:
A new (Jan 2018) RFC is now re-adopting port 465 for mail submission:
https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc8314
It discusses the rationale, and it is the first RFC that I've found to
be an interesting read. It advocates "Implicit TLS" on port 465 over
either cleartext OR STARTTLS.

at smtpd.conf. This in fact breaks smtpd such that it accepts no
connections at all. I believe I'll need to file a separate bug report for
that.

This loo

opensmtpd as a gateway like this. But in that case I'm curious what have others
done about the potential for the gateway to be a source of backscatter spam?
