Do you have rights to use HID device? Sounds that you don't have
correct using parameters. What does dmesg output? It seems that
Traktor is 'application' defined interface that doesn't follow USB
common interfaces like mice or audio USB.
You can test with libhid that device can be opened

No, ALSA doesn't do anything with the device. /proc/asound/cards did not
show anything about the SL4. I do not know what hiddev0 maps to. How
could I find this out? I presumed the kernel said it was an HID device
because it had no idea what else to do with it.
