Thanks for documenting, gonna try it.
Noticed that the links to the LP bug report page in the commit message
disappears on github, something i found very practical until.
Interested to see your sync script.

I'm not too worried about proprietary hosting. Even if we wanted to we
couldn't "fork" our launchpad site since the data is locked in to
Canonical's servers. If the code itself is hosted in a free-software VCS
then I think that is good enough. It would be great if git had built-in
support for issue
OK so you don't want to use proprietary hosting, then how about Gerrit
or GitLab?

An issue with Github is: it's not free software. Seems a bit odd a
project that lets me DJ without propietary software makes developers use
proprietary software.

I agree, we should do a poll. I'll be glad to participate so we can just
get the ball rolling finally.
To elaborate my position (also to offer some more choices for the poll),
If I were the benevolent dictator of Mixxx (which I'm not, thankfully for
all) I'd dictate the use of github as the ma
How about we set up a surveymonkey or google docs poll and ask all the

Here's an interesting article from one of the Bazaar devs on the decline of
the project:

I wonder how long it will be before we see a decline in Launchpad as well,
or maybe it's already happening which is why it hasn't changed much in t

Thank you RJ for your answers.
One point I am still worrying:
If we move with lp:mixxx to git and also with
e.g.:lp:~mixxxdevelopers/mixxx/quit_being_a_jerk
It the possible to merge from the new "mixxx" to the new
"quit_being_a_jerk" branch?
If not we will have a long period where we have to mirro

Cool, point-and-click native app for Github! But not for Linux :-(
Which one would you recommend for Linux?
How compatible are git and bzr in terms of loosing history.
We have currently 97 branches listed in Launchpad. Will it be possible
to merge theme with a git master some commits ahead?
Or it
A reminder that launchpad wasn't open source for almost 2 years after Mixxx
started using it. Hell, Stallman built GCC on VAX and Sun because there weren't
any free operating systems that did what he wanted yet.

Just wanted to put those two things closer together :^)
The maturity of Traktor,
Remember too, that Github has a point-and-click native app for mac and windows,
if anyone is worried about a learning curve on git :P

I don't have too much experience with git. But my experience with bzr
was all negative. The learning curve was very steep. I always got the
feeling that you needed to understand a great deal of the internal
workings in order to understand what command you should run.

Hi RJ, Hi All
"bzr vs. git" if you ask Google you find a lot of pros and cons for both.
I personal like the IMO easy "commit / update" scheme from SVN. Every time
I use git it is hard for me to understand what will happen.
But I am willing to learn. :-)
I think you listed pros and cons are valid
I personally like github a lot. I think the following "cons" are also
unfounded:

One more benefit is we could use it as a time to get rid of the mixxx/
directory in the root of our tree since everyone has to re-checkout the
tree anyway.

+1 I'm a fan of git; bzr confuses me.
Consider gitorious instead of GitHub, though. Gitorious releases 100%
of the source code used to run the site, and is very FOSS oriented,
while GitHub uses proprietary software and is interested in you paying
money for project hosting.

Hi RJ,
I agree with your assessment and it aligns with my own experience with git
and GitHub.
In general, I'm sold on git, but I'm not quite sold on GitHub. I don't
think GitHub makes a very good "development hub" for large open source
projects since project management features are non-existent.
