I have compiled Australia with mkgmap r4600, with dem and without

seem to display correctly. Overview size is 4.5 GB. What size is
expected to cause trouble?

Hi Gerd
Given that the overview map is for use on computers with 100s of G of
disk space and the main map will be a G or so, can an extra few 10K or
so in the overview map really be a problem for anyone?

Hi Gerd

I used Ranko's osm.pbf, splitter-r595 and my development mkgmap which
is trunk + overview patch + couple of trivial changes.
Where were you getting the exception?

This hasn't changed. For each input ovm_ img it gets an Area from
FileInfo.getBounds() then makes a 0x4a polygon from this, setting it's
name to the tile "Descriptions \n Mapn

Hi Gerd
Thinking about this more, any attempt at merging will most likely cause
violation of the rule that all overlaying polygons must be in the same
subdivision.
Also, just feeding all the points/lines/polygons back through the non
-order-by splitting process could cause similar problems, so my

Hi Gerd
shapeMergeFilter.merge() sorts the shapes according to typ, skipSize,

try a slightly different value for the --overview-dem-dist option or
