exactly, when i first heard it i thought that although the songs were great,
everything was way way too overproduced, but after listening to it many many
times, it sounds a hell of alot better, its not as instantly accessible as
LCW, or as beautiful as long drive, but its quite wonderful none the
I think that what has been said as "selling out" is the most idiotic
statement known to man. Production essence isn't selling out. I can't see
but one song on the new album surviving on radio. That being Tiny Cities
Made of Ashes. Besides that (of which i love) the record is amazingly

in re: the new modest mouse, there are a few intelligent things i've heard
that i wholeheartedly agree with. i think the overuse of "studio magic" is
entirely detrimental to the music, and i think all involved whould be
criminally prosecuted for drowning out the stylings of eric and je
personally, i think it's quite good. listen to it about 50 times in a 7
day period and perhaps you'll agree. perhaps not.

Yes, that is a great record. I got it back in December and played it two
weeks straight. It's different than Tristeza, though. Tristeza is a lot
more jangly and melodic. Southpacific uses drone guitar stuff with bits
of melody coupled with a bouncy rhythm section.
