This has most likely nothing to do with modssl.
I would guess you have disabled (or more probably: not
enabled) POST for the SSL part. Remember: the SSL host
is a complete separate VHost!

In order to use shared memory cache, you need to install the mm library
(http://www.engelschall.com/sw/mm/) and then compile apache/mod_ssl.
After that. it works fine.
