Great stuff Earl. Some nicely choreographed fisticuffs and stunts, and I
get the feeling it would've *really* hurt if you'd mistimed it just one
little bit. No CGI there!

I am surprised you guys haven't mentioned the Elgin.
I was a regular at all those from 1967 to 1972 when I left for Vegas. Those
theaters are where I saw the best foreign films, Fellini and Bergman, and
all the rest.

Actually, some of the posters came from my auctions as well!
I went with Jose to see David Packard, and we walked into the theater and he
was playing an incredible restored organ, just like what was in silent movie
palaces. He was a really nice, down to earth guy who loved old movies.

was a bit disappointed when I received it, but it sort of grew on me as a

I used to make out in the Elgin when I went to college. IT was a bit of
a dive. The Elgin is still around. It was bought by the Elliot Feld
Ballet Company and is now called the Joyce Theater. It is devoted
exclusively to live dance performance. It's a great space. FRANC

I had some posters a while back for the Ivy Theatre on W. 46th in NYC. They
were from the early 70s.
Did other revival houses like the Bleecker issue their own posters? It seems to
me I've had a few in the past from other theatres.

It is cool that some of these places issued their own posters but what I truly
love to see is images of the old theatres that dressed up their theatres and
workers to go with the film that was playing. Those days before the tv
trailers when a theatre had to depend on it's own work to attract

One of them was on 57th Street, I believe, not too far from Carnegie Hall (NOT
the CH Cinema.) They played the usual repertory fare.
