Both stars (Genevieve Bujold & Richard Burton) deserved Academy Awards for their performances.  Irene Papas was great too.  Anne of the Thousand Days ranks as one of my top ten movies of all times.  Only drawback is you know the entire outcome during the first five minutes of the film.  _
