does anyone know the reasoning why hitchcock chose Canada as the setting
for I CONFESS ?
(truly a great, great movie in hitchcock's obsession of the subject of
accusing the wrong person. probably 80% of hitchcock's films have this issue
as the main theme or as a collateral theme.
Maybe, because it was based on a French play, Hitchcock wanted to maintain its
Gallic flavor without having to shoot in France by setting it in the very
picturesque (and, at the time, very Catholic) Quebec City.

I also would suspect that Hitchcock chose Quebec City because the tenets
of the Catholic priesthood are at the root of the film. Hitchcock was a
Catholic and Quebec City was a very Catholic city at the time of the
production and easily provided the correct look for the film. I'm not

Those posters were produced in Marin County (Corte Madera, CA) north
of SF in the late 1960s-early 1970s when there was an early interest
in old Hollywood films. They were available in stores like Cost Plus
and were used to decorate dorm room, etc. I believe hey sold for $5.
each.
I remember these Portal Posters offered in comic books and record clubs I
used to belong to in the 1960's and early 1970's. I think at one point they
were even offered in Mad magazine. I always remembered them because the
sizes were way off compared to regular one sheets. Plus they were so

a few of them from Pier 1 Imports and had them taped up on my dorm room wall.
They were $6 each.
