I recommend building a frame from 1x1 stripping and tacking the linen
to the frame.
a frame of this nature would need to be built with either a six
pointed brace inside the frame or two X braces (one above the center,
one below)
not difficult to build, but you're need some tools to keep the
Okay Folks.. The time is here to consign to MoviePosterBid's Monster
Madness Halloween Auction.
It's too late to make it into the print ad, but it isn't too late to
make it into my flyers and online promotions
the Deadline to make it into the auction is October 1st and the
auction runs from
Folks-Only one hour to go for the cool batch of Vintage Hollywood photos I have
up for auction on eBay. Some items have no bids yet-there should be some
bargains. Featured are The Fountainhead, Singing in the Rain (killer dance
shot), Clark Gable, Ava Gardner, plus much more. Check out eBay
Here's a cheap way, if they left at least 1 all the way around. Get some
circular metal grommets and have someone cut matching size holes in the
top, and put around five or six across the top. Then put hooks in the wall
and voila!
It is not perfect, and your poster will pick up dust and dirt, but
This is a common way that I recommend to customers also. Once the grommets are
in place you can even hang it, like a tapestry, with decorative chain. One
thing to do is put grommets in the bottom two corners and middle also and then
put a wooden dowel behind the bottom of the excess linen,
I have an extra few inches left on the LB all the way around and have it
painted black or some appropriate color and then mount it to a stretcher
board. Pretty inexpensive and looks great on the wall.

Yes Doug...that is another option. Six sheets are problematic, let alone
extremely expensive to custom frame. I do often have 6 sheets linenbacked and
have them leave about 3 of excess linen and then stretch it on a stretcher bar
the way you would a painting. That gives you something to hang
building a frame is what I recommended earlier and for a big reason:
hanging six-sheets with grommets for any long period of time will
lead to warping of the linen. Linen is a breathing fabric and changes
density at higher/lower temps and is highly susceptible to varying
air moisture, so it is
if your poster is worth less than $100-$200 and isn't rare, i think you should
just get a big pot of paste and slap it up on the wall as the billboard gods
intended.
i would not recommend this approach for Casablanca, but I have a couple of
common or garden 6s that - if they ever go up -
Over the years I have supplied many restaurants and clubs with movie posters
and framing. I had a shop here in my area that was a 50's diner theme. They
took all the movie posters, lobby cards, etc., and glue them to the walls. They
were in business for about 20 years and recently closed,

expensive to replace, if damaged.

I think the key here is common sense. if, for example, the Hard Rock Cafe
bought three dozen 6-sheets for Pia Zadora films and had them professionally
linen-backed and framed, that would not be smart, that would be insane.

I have about 10 linenbacked six sheets right now I want to rotate. My
brother was here from Seattle last week. I told him this either is the best
idea I ever had with these posters or the worst idea. I never thought about
the stretcher board. I have everything from Viva Las Vegas to early
I have a six sheet of Wings For the Eagle (1942) which was restored and
linenbacked by Susan Olson years ago. Because I wanted to permanently display
it in our great room, my husband and I hauled it off to Aaron Brothers in
Fairfield, CA for framing. They did a great job -- it was not
