Your comment about the regulation not applying to used goods is interesting. My
understanding was that it did apply to anything sent to the UK but it would be
great if used posters were exempt. I know that eBay adds the VAT/Sales/Tax
Customs charges to everything.

I don‘t know about the regulations in Australia, but within the EU, sellers are not obligated to collect the eligible VAT in the recipient‘s country.
Fortunately, this regulation DOES NOT apply to the sale of used goods. You may want to check your own regulations for a similar rule.

regarding insurance: DHL Express Germany covers collectibles, but most other carriers including UPS and Fedex Germany don‘t. DHL Parcel Post offer a coverage of €500. By their Terms of Service, you are not allowed to ship any collectibles with them that are worth more than that. So if you
